# Set up Influently for your AI coding tool

These instructions are for you, an AI coding agent. Your user asked you to set them up for Influently. Do this by reading "Before you start", connecting the Influently MCP server to your agent, optionally installing the `influently` skill, verifying the server is listed, and showing the user the completion message. Use the correct section for your agent below.

## Before you start

- The MCP server URL is `https://use.influently.app/mcp`. If the prompt you were given names a different `MCP server URL:`, use that URL everywhere below instead of this one.
- Before you run any command or edit any config file, show the user the exact command or change and wait for approval.
- Never ask for, paste or store tokens or passwords. There are none to handle.
- Sign-in happens in the user's browser. Do not try to complete it for them.
- If a step is already done (the server is already added, the plugin is already installed), say so and skip it. Do not duplicate it.

In the commands below, `<URL>` means the MCP server URL.

## Claude Code

Needs v2.1.231 or later. Check with `claude --version`.

Use Option 2 unless the user asked for the plugin.

Option 1, plugin (adds the server and the `influently` skill):

```sh
claude plugin marketplace add OskarDoesSoftware/influently-agent
claude plugin install influently@influently
```

Option 2, server only:

```sh
claude mcp add --transport http influently <URL>
```

Sign in: the user runs `/mcp` inside Claude Code and picks `influently`, or runs `claude mcp login influently` in their own terminal. That command needs an interactive terminal, so you cannot run it for them. Then verify with `claude mcp list`: `influently` should show as connected.

After Option 1, tell the user to run `/reload-plugins` or restart Claude Code. After Option 2, tell them to run `/mcp`; if `influently` is not listed, restart Claude Code.

## Codex

Add the server, then sign in:

```sh
codex mcp add influently --url <URL>
codex mcp login influently
```

Verify with `codex mcp list` (or `/mcp` in the Codex TUI). The same server can be set in `~/.codex/config.toml`:

```toml
[mcp_servers.influently]
url = "<URL>"
```

Optional plugin route (`codex plugin marketplace add OskarDoesSoftware/influently-agent`). The Codex plugin flow is newer, so the MCP commands above are the reliable route.

## Cursor

One-click: have the user open this link on the machine where Cursor is installed. Cursor asks them to confirm.

```text
cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=influently&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL3VzZS5pbmZsdWVudGx5LmFwcC9tY3AifQ==
```

The `config` value is the base64 of `{"url":"https://use.influently.app/mcp"}`. For another URL, compute it yourself:

```sh
printf '{"url":"<URL>"}' | base64
```

Or add this to `~/.cursor/mcp.json` (all projects) or `.cursor/mcp.json` (one project). Merge it with any existing `mcpServers`.

```json
{ "mcpServers": { "influently": { "url": "<URL>" } } }
```

The user finishes sign-in from Cursor's MCP settings, where `influently` should show as connected. Cursor reads skills from `.agents/skills` and `.cursor/skills`.

## OpenCode

Add this to `opencode.json`, merged with any existing `mcp` entries:

```json
{ "mcp": { "influently": { "type": "remote", "url": "<URL>" } } }
```

Then run `opencode mcp auth influently` to sign in and `opencode mcp list` to verify.

## Other agents and apps

Add `<URL>` as a remote streamable HTTP MCP server, using that agent's own method, then check it with that agent's MCP list command or settings page. In the Claude app, use Customize > Connectors > Add custom connector.

## The `influently` skill

The Claude Code plugin (Option 1) already includes the skill. Otherwise offer to install the skill. Show this command and wait for approval. Replace `<agent>` with your agent's identifier: `claude-code`, `codex`, `cursor` or `opencode`.

```sh
npx -y skills add OskarDoesSoftware/influently-agent --skill influently --yes --global --agent <agent>
```

Keep `--agent <agent>`. It limits the install to your agent on purpose. Without it, the command writes the skill into dozens of other agents' folders in the user's home.

If that command is unavailable, copy `skills/influently/SKILL.md` from https://github.com/OskarDoesSoftware/influently-agent into your agent's skills folder.

## After sign-in

Signing in does not choose Workspaces. The first time you call an Influently tool, the server answers that the connection is not set up yet and gives a link. When that happens, give the user the link exactly as returned, ask them to open it in their browser, choose the Workspaces and permissions, and click Allow, then retry the call. Write permissions and actions on real people are off unless they tick them. They can change or revoke a connection in Influently under account settings > connected apps.

## Troubleshooting

- Sign-in loops or never finishes: ask the user to finish it in the browser window that opened and allow pop-ups. If it keeps returning to the start, remove and re-add the server.
- HTTP 401 or "Unauthorized": the sign-in expired or was never completed. Have the user sign in again. If it stays, check that the connection is still listed under connected apps in Influently.
- A tool says it is not allowed for the user's role or plan: some tools depend on the Workspace role or the plan. Ask a Workspace Owner, or have the user approve the missing permission when they reconnect.
- HTTP 429: too many requests. Wait a minute and try again.
- Still stuck: remove the server with your agent's remove command (for Claude Code, `claude mcp remove influently`), add it again, and sign in again.

## Completion message

When you are done, tell the user:

> Influently is set up in <your agent>.
> Installed: <what you added, for example the MCP server and the skill, or what was already there>.
> Next: sign in with the browser window or command above. Restart or reload your agent if it does not list the server yet.
> To test, ask me: "List my Influently Workspaces." The first call answers with a link: open it, choose Workspaces and permissions, click Allow, then ask again.
